Special: Haven wreck

The supertanker Amoco
Milford Haven, clapper flag cipriota and with 224 mila
tons of tonnage, reaches in the oadstead of the port
of Genoa in April 1991 and after to have unloaded part
of its cargo (approximately 80.000 tons), filler in
oadstead in order to execute small maintenance jobs.
On April the 11th at 12,30 am, during the jobs, verification
an outbreak that rips the blanket and the bulwarks of
the ship, provoking a fire and one spillage of part
of the cargo. |
To null been worth
the ready participation of the Harbor Master's Office
of Genoa with the squares antifire: the ship by now
was in critical conditions, and in the night between
April the 11th and the 12th, having lost also the anchorage,
begins to go to the drift. They take part, then, the
tugs, for being able to maintain the Haven located one
where the sea is not too much deep and to concur, in
such a way, the successive anti pollution operations
and putting in emergency without danger for navigation. |

During
the towing operations the ship "loses", by
the way, all the forward section and the bulb and for
all April the 13th the ship continuous to burn in front
of Arenzano. The fire and the numerous consequent outbreaks
provoke the fusion of all the parts in bronze and brass
and the sheets consequently assume a skewed and waved
aspect. The propeller, very visible outside from the
water, seems a flower that, with passing of the hours,
always withers more. After approximately 70 hours of
agony the ship scompares between the waves to wide of
Arenzano, lying down itself on the bottom to approximately
80 mt of depth. |
In spite of the reclamations carried out
and the immediate participations, part of the cargo and residual
oil, which had to the combustion, caught up the river. However
thanks to a careful reclamation work at a distance of 13 years
the wreck does not arouse particular worries, and from 2004
is opened to the patented divers.

The dive |
 |
| Abysso organizes every day dives
on the HAVEN wreck, with meeting at the center of Albisola
Superiore (SV) and departure from the port of Celle
Ligure. After 12 minutes of boat navigation we will
reach the diving point where the Abysso's staff will
carry you to admire the largest wreck of Europe. The
dive on this wreck does not involve particular problems,
but seen the depths (from 32. to 80 mt. ), as essential
requirement we demand a -40 meters licence or equivalent
with a minimal degree of experience; for who it wants
to dive in the range between 40 and 54 meters we demand
a Decompression Diving licence or equivalent, and a
Trimix licence for who wants to go beyond the 54 meters
until the propeller, to 82 meters. |
 |
Suggested diving profile
Times and depths could be calculate with adapted tables
(LAST NAVY, N.O.A.A) or with the use of the underwater
computer, it is to air that to mixtures. The recreational
dive on the bridge, to approximately 36-40 meters, has
an average total runtime of 30-40 mins. and is possible
with a single 15 lt. tank at 200 bars. It is necessary
to hold under tight control the times and a dive in
no decompression limits offers little time unfortunately.
Decompression stages of 10 minutes are of norm executed
to the quotas of 6 and 3 mts. |
Regulations and Instructions for the dive |

Dives
come intransgressibly carried out with the presence
of a divemaster every three divers,
